The song was first released as a 45rpm single on September 24, 1957, to coincide with the release of Presley's motion picture, Jailhouse Rock. Composer Mike Stoller can be seen playing piano in the film presentation of the song. The song as sung by Elvis Presley is #67 on Rolling Stone's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.[1] The single, with its B-side "Treat Me Nice," was a US #1 hit for 7 weeks in the fall of 1957, and a UK #1 hit for three weeks early in 1958. In 2005, the song was re-released in the UK and reached #1 for a single week. The song, which is an example of simple verse form, eventually sold four million copies in the US, thus earning a Double Platinum certification by the RIAA. Also in 1957, "Jailhouse Rock" was the lead song in an EP (extended play single), together with other songs from the film, namely "Young and Beautiful," "I Want to be Free," "Don't Leave Me Now," and "(You're So Square) Baby I Don't Care." It topped the Billboard EP charts, eventually selling an additional two million copies and earning another double-platinum RIAA certification.

Little did he know that this movie song, which he croons in the picture to a 78-year-old grandma, would be the show finale for so many hundreds of performances. Released in late November 1961, in its fourteen weeks on the charts "Can`t Help Falling In Love With You" made it to #2, paired with B-Side tune " Rock-A-Hula Baby," and soared past the million sales mark in the US. In the UK, it was #1 for four straight weeks. The song is actually a traditional French 18th century tune called "Plaisir d` Amour" by Giovanni Martini, with words penned specially for the movie by George Weiss, Hugo Peretti, and Luigi Creatore. When Elvis was recording the song, he told the musicians that he would be thinking of a little girl called Priscilla who he had left behind in Germany. Elvis chose "Can`t Help Falling In Love With You" over "Such A Night," " What`d I Say," and Fifties finale "Hound Dog" as his closing number when he returned to live performing in August 1969. It was directed by Steve Binder and produced by Binder and Bones Howe. The Comeback Special is featured in the television mini-series Elvis, a biopic about Elvis' life story starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers. It shows him first meeting with Steve Binder and performing the songs on stage which includes Lawdy Miss Clawdy, Big Boss Man and at the end of the film If I Can Dream. After much convincing, Elvis Presley does something about his career teetering on the brink of stagnation. During the last week of June 1968, the man who almost single handedly led a musical revolution in the mid '50s made use of "Western Recorders" and the "NBC Studios", Burbank, California to put on tape a TV special.
